Today was a rare day. I made music with an actual human being in Brussels, Belgium. It’d been a while. Last time was, gosh, it’s pathetic, but I really think it was in June with a rapper from Turrialba named Danny. Well, this is not really true, my six month old daughter plays with me sometimes, but when you are immobile and have know choice where you are it’s not counting completely.
The technology was starting to get in the way. It has been snowing in Belgium this past week, as it has been heavily reported. As a result he had all of his gear sitting still at a bar from his gig the previous Friday evening. Luckily I had experience of not having enough gear so I had brought my Firebox Presonus Firewire Card, my 1/8″ jack to 1/4″ stereo splitter (ended up being key to the collaboration) a microphone and many other cables, my 3 korg nano controllers for sliding, piano & beats, and my Kore 2 Controller.
Gael, aka, Hand Job Noizetalgik, whose myspace page is here usually plays with all analogue devices but we routed in Ableton Live his computer into my Live rig and I added a send to his in, took a little while to figure it out because I usually use my MOTU Ultralite in the studio and only DJ with my Firebox, and don’t usually use anything but my
Will upload (well, link, just discovered a 10mb upload limitation in the ini.php or was it php.ini file, seems to be site-wide, tried to work around by uploading the 60mb file into the same directory of the woman who likes mayonnaise on her burger and Wordpress doesn’t seem to recognize it. I love technology!
It’s hard to believe that what seems to essentially be a tax on poor people by requiring them to buy unregulated insurance is being called “health care reform”. What a lost opportunity for the United States. It appears that there is no regulations controlling costs and they are going to force people to pay for overpriced undercoverd insurance. What a loss when something truly interesting could have been done

Visa’s are changing around the people and the new open traveling and cosmopolitan masses need to inform their governments their desire to spend more than 90 days in other countries.

I have been enjoying my time in Brussels, Belgium this week. Today I had the good fortune to hang out with my friend Smael. We went about the town in the slushy snow through the antiques area on the way to St. Gillis. There are so many incredible antique and furniture strorefronts here in Brussels it is incredible. The Europeans somehow manage to integrate the small businesses and labor unions and socialized medicine and open borders and movement of labor with the large multinational corporations.
I hope it will last
Musée des Instruments de Musique (Mim)
Tonight I visited the Musée des Instruments de Musique (Musical Instrument Museum). I have to admit, I even liked the acronym for the museum mim there was something inviting about it, perhaps being so close to mime, perhaps my art name of NIO seeming , who knows, but I arrived in a snowy evening the week before Christmas.
The music instrument Museum near the Gare Central (Central Train Station) Is an amazing site to behold. First to get there if you are heading out from the central plaza you have to walk across an incredible plaza. Before arriving to the museum there’s a gorgeous red lantern building that appears to be a part of the Brussels central train station, but instead is what I believe to be a temporary tea house and restaurant.
Don’t miss it!
